Dr. Kirsten Barnes - Canadian Sport Institute Pacific

Kirsten had been working as an applied mental performance consultant for 10 years. She graduated from University of Victoria in 1993 and then completed a PhD in sport psychology at University of Bristol, England in 1998. Kirsten competed for Canada in rowing in the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games. She is a double Olympic Gold Medallist from the 1992 Games and World Champion in 1991 at the Rowing World Championships in both the 4- and 8+.

Kirsten has returned to Vancouver after 13 years in the UK. In the UK she worked as a sport psychology consultant as well as for Lane4 Management Group as a business coach. She has provided sport psychology support for England Squash, Rugby Football Union for Women, British Triathlon, Badminton Association of England and worked with several national team individual athletes in a variety of sports such as, rowing, cart driving, athletics, swimming and three-day eventing. Kirsten was one of two sport psychologists at the British Olympic Association Holding Camp in Australia prior to the 2000 Sydney Games.

Kirsten was a member English Institute of Sport Board and later the National Lead for Sport Psychology for the Institute. She has also been the sport psychology consultant to the Commonwealth Games Council for England, providing support to the headquarters staff, team management and athletes in preparation for and during the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Sharleen Hoar (Ph.D)- Canadian Sport Institute Pacific

Dr. Hoar is a member of the Canadian Mental Training Registry, holds a Ph.D. in Sport and Exercise Psychology. She is dedicated to assisting elite and aspiring performers of all ages to achieve personal and performance excellence by providing mental performance consultation, workshops, course instruction, and presentations. Internationally respected in her field for innovations in emotional control, she is a human performance specialist who has an expertise in sport and exercise psychology.

For the past 16 years, she has inspired Olympians, National team athletes, University athletes, youth athletes, and performing artists to maximize performance potentials through enhancing mental fitness, team functioning, leadership, and mental psychological well-being. She is a member of the Canadian Mental Training Registry and is Mental Performance consultant with the Canadian Sport Centre (Calgary and Victoria) working with high performance athletes, coaches, and support staff within the sports of Cross Country Skiing, Swimming, Triathlon, and Mountain Biking (Cross-Country). Dr. Hoar is an Adjunct Associate Professor with the University of Lethbridge (Lethbridge, AB) and is a sessional lecturer within the Sport Performance program of Camosun College (Victoria, BC). She actively publishes her research on emotional control for sport performance. Dr. Hoar’s commitment to practical and scientific understanding of the psychological foundations of performance excellence affords a cutting edge approach towards training others to achieve personal and performance excellence.
