The Victoria Academy of Swimming was designated by Swimming Canada as a high performance entity with the goal to produce international calibre swimmers and ultimately win medals at major competitions such as the FINA World Aquatic Championships and the Olympic Games.
To help the swimmers achieve these goals, the Academy provides a host of services starting with a group of world class coaches led by head coach Randy Bennett. In addition, swimmers admitted to the Academy have access to services such as physiotherapy and massages as well as sports sciences such as bio-mechanics all in the same centre.
The swimmers train at Saanich Commonwealth Place, an ideal facility which was built for the 1994 Commonwealth Games and has hosted numerous international competitions since then. Current national team members swimming at the Academy include Olympic and world championship medallists and multiple Canadian record holders. To view our swimmers roster, click here.
Part of the reason the Academy was established in Victoria is because of the strong base of swimmers from the area. With that in mind, the Academy has instilled a partnership with the Island Swimming Club to assure a succession in the centre with a Youth and Junior Academy unit which allows those swimmers to access the Academy and track their progress.
In addition the Academy hosts camps and visitations each year which allows swimmers that are on the high performance curve to also access the services.
